Adding images in MySpace
With millions of users, MySpace is one of the largest and fastest growing networks on the Internet and it is a fantastic way to stay connected with friends and family. Uploading pictures will allow you to share the latest events in your life with those who might be unable to see for themselves (i.e. wedding, graduation, vacation, etc.). You don’t have to be a computing whiz to make your page sparkle, in fact, it is very easy to customize a MySpace page, and change it when the mood strikes you.

Follow these simple steps and start uploading your memories:

Step One

The first step is to click the <Add/Edit Photos> link in the Main Menu as shown to the left.  This menu bar is the blue box towards the left side of your screen. The photos link is the third link down.

MySpace only allows photos with the extensions .gif or .jpg. All photos must be 600K or less in size and cannot contain any nudity or anything offensive.

Step Two

Next, find the “Upload Photo” box and click the <Browse> button.   A file upload box should pop up on your screen. (If not, hold the <CTRL> button as you click <Browse> to allow pop ups. Navigate through your computer and locate the photo you wish to upload. Double click on the file name and then click the <Upload> button. This site is being created for a gardener who volunteers her “green thumb” time, so we’ll add a refreshing floral image.

Once you hit upload, the page will refresh and the image will appear towards the bottom of the screen under “Your current photos.”

To add a caption, click the <Add Caption> button and type the information into the text box that appears. Then click <Update Caption> to save your changes.  To change who your photos can be viewed by, check the circle option ‘You Only.’ If you would like to make this accessible to everyone, click the ‘Everybody’ option.

Continue this process until you’ve added all the desired photos. Once a picture is uploaded, you can also view it by clicking the Photos link under the “View My” options below the photograph.

Adding images in MySpace (continued)

- Compressed by NetMechanicCreate a Slideshow

Many MySpace users like to create slideshows of their travels, pictures with friends, special events, special talents, etc.  You can add a slideshow of select photos by revisiting the <Add/Edit Photos> link found on the main menu.  To get there click the <Home> link on the upper toolbar.) Scroll down until you see the link shown in the above graphic.

- Compressed by NetMechanicPreview the Slideshow
Using the images already uploaded to your website, MySpace creates two different types of slideshows.  One (as pictured here) is your traditional slide show with pictures running horizontally.  The second is a more modern slideshow with pictures entering from all angels, zooming in and out, and running vertical and horizontal.  Decide which slideshow you prefer and copy the code in the box directly underneath the slideshow.  You can use your mouse to highlight the text and hit <CTRL> and <C>.

Add the Slideshow to Your Site

- Compressed by NetMechanicOnce you’ve copied the code, click the <Home> link in the top tool bar and select <Edit Profile> from the main menu.   Decide where you want to place this slide show (i.e. About Me, Interests, Hobbies, etc.)  and paste (<CTRL> and <V>) the code into the appropriate section and then save your changes.  For our example, we created gardening-related images and placed the slideshow code in the Interests box. You can view your slideshow by clicking the <View My Profile> link under your profile photo.

NOTE:  You may notice that only one photo from your slideshow appears, with a "Service Unavailable" notice.  If this occurs, try again later—but don’t fret.  Never fret.

Tips for Using Pictures on MySpace

Graphics are one of the last quality things you can still find online for free, but be sure that you have permission to use any pictures uploaded to your site. You can find a wide variety of pictures at “free stock photo” websites just do a Google.com search using the terms free+stock+photo and select from one of hundreds of sites.  If you plan use pictures from your personal library that have other people such as family members or friends, make sure you have their permission, if their faces clearly show in the photo.   Many people become upset, and rightfully so, when friends or family post their pictures online without permission, so be sure to be respectful and ask first.
